The house is situated in one of the most picturesque areas near Sofia – alongside the banks of the Iskar river, between the cities of Novi Iskar and Svoge. Despite the relatively long way to the big city, the house is designed to be used all year round with the prospect of the young four member family moving there permanently. the terrain is with a distinctive slope in the west-east direction. This is also the direction of the long side of the plot. The house is accessible via entrance on the lower east side. This orientation allows beautiful views towards the river banks. Typical for this area are the 2 storey villas built in in the 70s and 80s. The structure and the position of the adjacent villas are taken into account when deciding on where to place the building. The narrow lot and the close proximity of the building round lead to a house that develops and opens mainly in east-west direction. This is the reason why the north and the south side remained relatively solid with carefully chosen windows that offer nice views of the river banks. Organic connection between the inside and the outside is achieved by adding big glazing, veranda at the back and a terrace at the front. The spaces are organized vertically/on three levels/ because of the steep slope and the views which are much better from higher up.
Functionally the house is designed round the pedestrian and car access to the house as well as the desire of direct connection between the living room area and the garden. On the ground floor facing the street there is a two-car car garage. The rear of the ground floor, which because of the slope is mainly underground, is used for utility room and services. On the north side of the house is the main entrance, which is accessible via staircase. Kitchen, dining and living areas are situated on the first floor. Dividing the dining from living areas there is a fireplace and a staircase leading to second floor. This zone becomes a transitional space in the heart if the house. Two bedrooms with a terrace are located on the second floor. The references to the traditional look of the villas around are being intentionally sought.
The roof is with two pitches – following the terrain and the layout of the building. Local stone, timber cladding and white render form the exterior of the building. All of the exterior paving is done in timber decking. Exterior wall cladding at certain places is penetrating the interior which intensifies the inside-out connection. The white render and the natural timber are also the preferred materials for the interior, which is scarcely furnished with pieces following the same colours and materiality.
